The Ukrainian player, one of the standout performers of this red clay season, unbeaten and on her sixteenth consecutive win, lost 7-5, 6-1. The third seed is out: Kostyuk reaches the Roland Garros quarterfinals for the first time. In the midst of one of her best matches, Sorana Cirstea was forced to retire at 6-3, 7-6(4), clearing the way for Chinese player Xiyu Wang.
