TRT has stated that Murat Ekrem Çimen will no longer be commentating on matches during the tournament. Turkish media report that the commentator mistook Iran’s attacks for those of New Zealand in the opening minutes of the broadcast. The two teams drew 2–2 on Monday evening in Group G. TRT described the mistake as “unacceptable” and apologised to viewers, emphasising that such errors do not meet its broadcasting standards.
