Rome, 17 June (LaPresse) – It was all over for Lorenzo Sonego at the “Terra Wortmann Open” (ATP 500 – €2,583,330), currently being played on the grass courts of the “Owl Arena” (the Centre Court has a retractable roof) in Halle, Germany. The 31-year-old from Turin, ranked 65th in the ATP rankings, who was given a wildcard into the main draw as a lucky loser (this was his fourth consecutive appearance in the main draw, having been knocked out in the round of 16 on each occasion: in 2023 by Sinner, and in 2024 and 2025 by Zverev), lost 7-5, 6-3 in a match lasting one hour and 19 minutes to the American Ben Shelton, ranked No. 5 and the third seed, fresh from winning the title in Stuttgart last Sunday and competing on German grass for the first time.
