Florence, 19 June (LaPresse) – The lying-in-state for Igor Protti’s body will be open from 3 pm at Cecina Cemetery (Livorno), the town where the former footballer lived and where he died today at the age of 58. In Livorno, Mayor Luca Salvetti has declared a day of city-wide mourning for tomorrow, Saturday 20 June, to mark the commemoration of Igor Protti at the Armando Picchi Municipal Stadium. From 6.00 pm tomorrow – according to a statement from the Livorno municipal administration – the player’s coffin will be laid in state at the stadium to allow the public, institutions, the sporting world and all those who shared his personal and professional journey to pay a fitting and heartfelt tribute to Igor. The passing of this great player, which occurred last night, has deeply affected the Livorno community due to the human, civic, sporting and identity-defining bond that he represented for the city; for this reason, the City Council felt the need to express, in a solemn and public manner, the entire city’s shared grief at his death.”
