Turin, 22 June (LaPresse) – Egypt beat New Zealand 3–1 in their Group G match on the second day of the World Cup, securing their first-ever victory in a World Cup fixture. Surman gave the New Zealand side hope by opening the scoring in the 15th minute, but in the second half the North African side fought back and turned the match around thanks to goals from Ziko in the 13th minute, Salah in the 22nd and Trezeguet in the 37th. Egypt thus leapfrog to the top of the group with 4 points, whilst New Zealand remain on 1.
