Rome, 25 June (LaPresse) – “Nico Mannion will be our first signing.” Luka Doncic’s visit to Rome isn’t just about photo opportunities, official meetings and the usual exhibition matches. The NBA star means business and has immediately dropped a three-pointer regarding the new direction of Basketball Club Roma SPQR. The formidable Slovenian basketball player from the Los Angeles Lakers is financially involved in a consortium with Donnie Nelson to establish a Rome-based team in the coming seasons that can compete within the ambitious NBA Europe project. It was Doncic himself who let the transfer news slip, whilst he was at the San Lorenzo playground this morning, surrounded by the huge crowd of fans who had turned up for the exhibition. Around 1,200 young people were present, and Doncic played with 16 of them, demonstrating his step-back three-pointer, explaining his technique and then watching how the youngsters applied it on the court. Also present was Rino Fabiano, the sports councillor for the 2nd Municipality. Nico Mannion is a player for Olimpia Milano, where he has spent two seasons and won the league title just a few days ago against Reyer Venezia.
