Turin, 30 June (LaPresse) – A positive start, albeit with a few too many nail-biting moments, for Jasmine Paolini at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the season currently underway on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The 30-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, ranked 17th and seeded 13th – making her sixth appearance in the main draw, with the 2024 final as her best result – came from behind to win 06 64 75, after nearly two and a half hours of battle, the American Robin Montgomery, ranked 195th, who three weeks ago on the grass courts of ’s-Hertogenbosch had won her first WTA trophy (following Krajcikova’s withdrawal), having started all the way from the qualifiers. For the 21-year-old from Washington, this was her second appearance at Wimbledon (in 2024 she was knocked out in the second round by Jabeur). On Thursday in the second round, Paolini will face either Belarusian Iryna Shymanovic, ranked 215th, who came through the qualifiers, or Swiss player Victorija Golubic, ranked 62nd in the WTA.
