Rome, 1 July (LaPresse) – “Deadline for the technical director and head coach? Everything will be finalised within a week; there’s also the matter of the team manager and the technical director for Club Italia. I can reiterate that I have not spoken on the phone with, met or negotiated with anyone so far. I have made it a rule that this must only take place once the technical director’s position has been filled. This could be combined with that of the president of Club Italia, given that their roles are very similar.” So said FIGC president Giovanni Malagò at a press conference following the first Federal Council meeting since his election. “This demonstrates that I have taken on a great political responsibility. There is a desire and a willingness.” On the role of technical director, “I am working very, very, very hard on it,” he clarified. “I don’t know whether to say I’m close to a decision; I’ve read many names, some more than others, but I can neither confirm nor deny anything.” Regarding the head coach, when asked whether sponsors might pay part of the head coach’s salary, Malagò clarified: “There is a lot of work to be done on the sponsorship front; I think I’m reasonably capable in this area. I don’t think a sponsor would push for one name over another, but I do think a sponsor might say that, if it’s necessary to achieve a particular objective, they could do so – though that would be very unfair. There are the amateur sports clubs and a whole sector struggling at the moment. It may be that everything is sorted out within a few hours, or it may take longer; however, I would advise you not to focus on just one avenue.”
