Milan, 1 July (LaPresse) – “I’m happy today; the second set was tough. In the first two sets, we both served very well, so I didn’t have much control. Two wins are already good; now let’s see what happens. We still need to improve a few things.” Jannik Sinner said this in his immediate post-match comments following his victory over Nuno Borges in the second round of the Wimbledon tournament. After thanking the crowd “for your incredible support”, the Italian reflected on his absence from the courts following his illness at Roland Garros. “The lack of matches since Paris certainly put me in a difficult position, but matches like this are helping me. Especially the first one. I’ve got another day’s rest tomorrow; I didn’t do much yesterday because the first match was really tough,” he added. Sinner then addressed the special guests in the Royal Box – namely some representatives of the European Ryder Cup golf team, including Rory McIlroy. “Carlos (Alcaraz, ed.) certainly plays better than me; I still have a lot of improving to do. But of course, playing in front of them was fantastic. We know that lots of tennis players love playing golf, so I’m really happy. And besides, it’s always played on grass,” he concluded with a laugh.
