Milan, July 2 (LaPresse) – A great 100m performance yesterday evening for Marcell Jacobs in Eisenstadt, Austria: 9.67 in the final, though wind-assisted beyond the legal limit (+4.1), about an hour and a half after an already impressive 9.84 (+2.3) in the heats of the Continental Tour Silver meeting. No European had ever run faster than the continental record of 9.80 set by the Olympic champion in 2021 in Tokyo, not even with wind above the +2.0 threshold. It is the third-fastest time in the world in any conditions after Usain Bolt’s 9.58 and 9.63 legal runs, and the best wind-assisted performance ever, one hundredth faster than Tyson Gay’s 9.68 with the anemometer also at +4.1. The Fiamme Oro sprinter finished well ahead of Britain’s Romell Glave, second in 9.76, while third was South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk in 9.83, the 400m world record holder. “Very happy because I am improving with every race,” said Marcell Jacobs. “Of course there was a lot of wind here, but only Bolt in history has gone under this time, and I’m really happy to have achieved such a result.”
