Frankfurt (Germany), 3 July (LaPresse) – The German Football Association (DFB) has officially announced Julian Nagelsmann’s departure from the national team. “The German Football Association would like to express its sincere thanks to Julian Nagelsmann for the work he has done since September 2023. He has distinguished himself through his great commitment and an extraordinary spirit of ambition. He is also an extremely responsible and sincere person, whom we all hold in high regard,” said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf in a statement, after the supervisory board and the federation’s shareholder representatives unanimously approved the resolution to terminate head coach Julian Nagelsmann’s contract with immediate effect. The DFB explained that it was Nagelsmann himself who, during a private meeting with the federation’s leadership on the eve of the meeting, asked to be relieved of his duties following Germany’s disappointing campaign at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. “The decision was far from easy. My main objective has always been the team’s success. After such a heavy disappointment, the national team deserves the opportunity to start afresh without any external influences. I am deeply sorry to have let our fans down; they deserved so much more,” said Nagelsmann.
