Rome, 6 July (LaPresse) – A record-breaking performance by Summer McIntosh. At the Canadian Trials, the 19-year-old set a new women’s world record in the 200-metre butterfly, clocking 2 minutes and 1.65 seconds to beat the previous record held by China’s Liu Zige, which had stood since as far back as 2009. A three-time champion at the 2004 Paris Olympics, McIntosh celebrated by pumping her fists in the water with a beaming smile, bursting with joy. She had been aiming for this record for some time, coming within just 0.18 seconds of the record last year.
