Rome, 7 July (LaPresse) – The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has provisionally lifted the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee, which had been in force since 12 October 2023. “The decision,” reads a statement, “was taken following an in-depth analysis by the IOC’s Legal Affairs Commission, given that the Russian Olympic Committee no longer counts amongst its members any regional sports organisations in the territories falling under the jurisdiction of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.” “Furthermore,” the IOC continues, “the Russian Olympic Committee has confirmed that it does not carry out, nor will it carry out in future, any activities in those territories.” The IOC goes on to state that “the Executive Board will continue to monitor closely the situation regarding the Russian Olympic Committee’s activities in these territories and reserves the right to take further measures should it deem it necessary.”
