Milan, 10 July (LaPresse) – More trouble for René Higuita, Colombia’s legendary goalkeeper from the late 1980s and early 1990s. A Colombian court has ordered the seizure of one of his villas. According to the Colombian media, the judges claim that the property was purchased with money from the Medellín cartel led by the drug lord Pablo Escobar. The house was then reportedly bought by Higuita in 1992. However, the former goalkeeper told the Colombian broadcaster Blu Radio that the procedure he used to acquire the property was legal. “Back then, in the 1990s, we didn’t have the technology we have today that allows us to go online and start doing research… at the time, we checked the title deeds and registration certificates. And those certificates did not show any criminal record,” he said. Higuita added that he had been the most affected by the whole affair and stated in a press release, published on social media, that he would use all legal means at his disposal to challenge the decision.
