Rome, 14 July (LaPresse) – “From this afternoon, we’ll be moving towards drawing up a ‘shortlist’ to identify a suitable candidate. I haven’t had time to do so before. We’re working on this. We also need to organise video meetings with Maldini and Leonardo. Could the announcement of the new head coach come next week? I wouldn’t rule it out. Is Pirlo on the shortlist too? I mustn’t comment on names – if I say yes, I’ll be wrong; if I say no, I’ll be wrong.” So said FIGC president Giovanni Malagò on the sidelines of the CONI Executive Committee meeting, speaking about the expected timeline for the announcement of the national team’s new head coach. “Will I be meeting Maldini and Leonardo? Perhaps tomorrow in Milan, where I’ll also be travelling for other commitments, whilst next week there will be the League Assembly, where initially it was planned that I would attend alone, but Paolo and Leonardo will also be there,” he added. “I have asked for a permanent Club Italia presence, as a demonstration of the strong bond between the Federation and the Serie A and Serie B Leagues,” concluded Malagò.
