Turin, 16 July (LaPresse) – Carlos Alcaraz could return to action at the Cincinnati Masters 1000, scheduled for 13–23 August, as his name appears on the list of participants published on the tournament’s official website. The Spaniard, the defending champion, has been sidelined with an injury to his right wrist since early April, when he was knocked out in the first round of the Barcelona tournament, and has since dropped to third place in the ATP rankings. Topping the list is Jannik Sinner, who was forced to retire last year in the final against Alcaraz in Cincinnati; he has won all the Masters 1000 tournaments he has played so far and celebrated his sixth title of the season at Wimbledon, the fifth Grand Slam title of his career. Sinner is the first of six Italians entered in the tournament: the list also includes Matteo Arnaldi, Matteo Berrettini, Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi and Lorenzo Musetti, who is expected to make his return to the court in Washington following a rectus femoris injury to his left thigh sustained at the BNL Italian Open, which forced him to miss Roland Garros and the entire grass-court season. The list also features former world number four Holger Rune, who could make his return to the court following surgery on his Achilles tendon.
