I haven’t been contacted.” This is what Antonio Conte said on DAZN, whilst a guest at the DAZN studios for the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, regarding rumours of his possible appointment as national team manager. “I’ve already been head coach and it was a wonderful experience. I was sad when I left; we parted in tears and it remains a wonderful memory. That sense of belonging needs to return to the national team – it mustn’t be a problem for the clubs. For our part, we must give the fans something that will inspire them to get behind the team,” he added. “There are now people of great calibre at the helm: we all know Malagò; we know what he achieved as president of CONI too. Maldini couldn’t stay away from football – he’s a figure who has always stood out for his professionalism. He also did very well as a director at Milan,” he said. “The most important thing is that there is consensus on decisions, because once a decision is made, it must be fully embraced by both sides. That is the most important thing. I hope that things are now done properly, because we’ve really pulled off a feat in reverse by failing to qualify for the World Cup,” concluded Conte.
