Milan, 19 July (LaPresse) – On the day Jonas Vingegaard withdrew following a nasty crash, yellow jersey holder Tadej Pogacar perhaps ‘allowed’ Remco Evenepoel to take victory in the 15th stage of the Tour de France, the 183.9 km Champagnole–Plateau de Solaison stage with an uphill finish. For the Belgian, this is his third career victory at the Grand Boucle, but his first in a road stage rather than a time trial. On the final climb to the Plateau de Solaison, Evenepoel beat Pogacar and his Mexican team-mate Isaac Del Toro in a tight sprint. In the new general classification, the Slovenian champion now leads Evenepoel by +5’00’“ and del Toro by +5’58”’. Monday sees the second rest day of this Tour; racing resumes on Tuesday with the 16th stage, a 26.1 km time trial from Évian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains.
