Milan, 19 July (LaPresse) – A dramatic turn of events during the 15th stage of the Tour de France, the 183.9 km Champagnole–Plateau de Solaison stage: Jonas Vingegaard withdrew after a nasty crash 20 km from the finish. The Danish rider from Visma-Lease a Bike slammed his shoulder violently against a kerb after skidding on a bend; Isaac Del Toro of UAE Team Emirates-XRG also ended up on the ground alongside him. TV footage immediately showed Vingegaard in considerable pain; he was then attended to and helped into an organisers’ car to be taken to hospital. Del Toro, however, set off again shortly afterwards, apparently unharmed. Vingegaard, a two-time Tour winner and this year’s Giro d’Italia pink jersey holder, was second in the general classification, trailing the yellow jersey holder Tadej Pogacar by +4’30”.
