Milan, July 21 (LaPresse) – “We have asked EasyJet time and time again to confirm whether this trip could be arranged, as we are well aware that it is logistically complex: five athletes in electric wheelchairs, plus the head coach himself, who also uses an electric wheelchair, and the sports equipment, which consists of an additional five electric wheelchairs. We received reassurances and confirmation of transport from EasyJet. Yesterday, an hour and a half before departure, we were informed by the EasyJet airport manager that there had been an internal communication issue within the company and that, as a result, the equipment for which we had provided the dimensions, weight, and specifications, could not be loaded. Consequently, none of the competition wheelchairs, the manual wheelchairs, or the everyday wheelchairs could be transported, so we found ourselves unable to depart and participate in the tournament, which began this morning.” This was stated by Fabio Rodo, secretary general of the Italian Paralympic Powerchair Sport Federation, a guest on the program “Gli Inascoltabili,” broadcast on Radio Roma Sound, regarding the logistical incident that occurred yesterday at Fiumicino Airport involving EasyJet. “Through the agency that assisted us with the reservations, we received a very brief email in which they simply expressed their regret and announced the launch of an internal investigation to determine what had happened—and this clearly does not resolve the problem for the national team or for the athletes who had arrived in Rome from all over Italy as early as Sunday evening—since our athletes came from Turin, Treviso, Milan, and Mantua—and the staff as well, with all the complications that entails,” he added.
