Rome, 1 Aug. (LaPresse) – “The FIFA Forward Enterprise project was designed to provide a basis for further strengthening FIFA’s member associations and our sport worldwide, particularly in countries where support is most needed. And, as we have stated from the outset, this project was to be implemented only with the support of the majority of FIFA’s member associations and always following consultation with them, the FIFA Council, the Confederations and other stakeholders. Having listened carefully to all views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of such a nature that, regardless of the level of support, it is no longer in the interests of the intended objective. Our aim has always been, and always will be, to unite and improve. Consequently, this proposal will not be taken forward.” So said FIFA President Gianni Infantino in a statement, expressing his intention “to bring together all stakeholders in the coming days and weeks, in the spirit of a shared interest in our sport and with the aim of continuing to grow football everywhere, particularly in those countries most in need of our support”.
