Rome, 10 Aug. (LaPresse) – Mattia Furlani’s European Championships campaign has come to an end after his first qualifying jump. The 21-year-old Italian athlete from Fiamme Oro felt a twinge in his right thigh as he landed forward and immediately signalled with a grimace of pain that he could not continue the competition. The Italian – who had jumped 7.73 – left the stadium in a wheelchair. The reigning world champion had injured his right hamstring at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, China, at the end of May. He now has to contend with a relapse just two and a half months after that setback.
