Turin, 11 Aug. (LaPresse) – Simona Quadarella has won the gold medal in the 800-metre freestyle at the European Swimming Championships currently taking place in Paris. The Italian swimmer clocked a time of 8’15‘55, finishing almost three seconds (2’89) ahead of Germany’s Isabel Gose, who kept pace with the Roman swimmer until the 500-metre mark, before faltering in the face of Quadarella’s relentless pace from the 600-metre mark onwards. Bronze went to another German, Maya Werner, exactly 7 seconds behind the winner. This is the Italian swimmer’s fourth European title of her career over this distance.
