Rome, 12 Aug. (LaPresse) – At the European Swimming Championships, Sara Curtis has qualified for the 50-metre backstroke final after setting a new world record in the second semi-final. The Italian swimmer finished in a time of 26.63 seconds, beating Kaylee McKeown’s previous world record (26.86 seconds) by a full 23 hundredths of a second. Behind her were Alina Gaifutdinova in 26.91 seconds and Mary-Ambre Moluh in 27.25 seconds. Costanza Cocconcelli finished ninth in 27.87 seconds, missing out on the final by just two hundredths of a second.
