Turin, 14 Aug. (LaPresse) – The cycling world is in mourning. British cyclist Finlay Tarling, brother of Joshua Tarling – a rider for Netcompany-Ineos and the 2023 European time trial champion – has died at the age of 19 following an accident during the eighth stage of the Tour of Portugal. This was confirmed by the race organisers, who said they were “deeply saddened to announce the death of British cyclist Finlay Tarling of the NSN Development Team, following a serious accident during the eighth stage, between Melgaço and Fafe,” according to a statement posted on social media. “The race has been neutralised and the prize-giving ceremony will not take place out of respect and as a sign of mourning.” According to ‘A Bola’, the young rider was struck by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction which was not part of the Tour of Portugal convoy.
