With a score of 13.700, the Italian athlete outclassed all her rivals, including the hot favourite, Russia’s Angelina Melnikova, who took bronze behind France’s Elena Colas. The Olympic silver medallist in the team final and Olympic bronze medallist on the balance beam at Paris 2024 two years ago had previously claimed the all-around title; this time, she has earned the title in an individual event. Earlier, Campana had won silver on the balance beam (pipped by a tenth of a point by Elena Colas), Elisa Iorio took silver on the parallel bars, and Giulia Perotti claimed bronze on the uneven bars. One gold, two silvers and one bronze therefore make up Italy’s impressive haul. In the medal table, the Italian team is second behind Russia, which leads with Angelina Melnikova’s two golds in the all-around and vault.
