The Italian finished in 2:10.07, just 0.26 seconds behind the gold medallist, Ireland’s Ellen Walshe, who clocked 2:09.81. In the closing stages, the Italian managed to hold off a late charge from Belgium’s Roos Vanotterdijk, who took bronze in 2:10.10. Just three hundredths of a second separated the Italian from the Belgian. Both British swimmers finished off the podium: Abbie Woodm in fourth and Amalie Smith in sixth.
