Rome, 15 Aug. (LaPresse) – At the European Swimming Championships in Paris, Germany’s Johannes Liebmann has set a historic world record in the 1,500m freestyle. With a time of 14’26‘79, he is the first swimmer to break the 14’30’ barrier. Liebmann finished 13 seconds ahead of Hungary’s Zalan Sarkany, who took silver in 14’39‘45. It was a German one-two on the podium, with Oliver Klemet taking bronze in 14’40’64. For Italy, Luca De Tullio finished fifth in 14’54″78.
