Rome, 15 Aug. (LaPresse) – An Italian one-two in the men’s 50m breaststroke at the European Swimming Championships in Paris. Nicolò Martinenghi produced a superb performance at the most crucial moment with a time of 26.57 seconds to take gold, finishing 5 hundredths of a second ahead of Simone Cerasuolo, who clocked 26.62 seconds, tying for second place with the Dutchman Koen de Groot. Martinenghi made the difference in the final and returned to the top step of the European podium, pipping his very own team-mate, who had been the clear favourite going into the race.
