Rome, 15 Aug. (LaPresse) – Sara Curtis has amazed everyone once again, winning the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle at the European Swimming Championships whilst setting a new Italian record. The Italian finished in 23.99 in a top-class race won by Poland’s Katarzyna Wasick, who clocked 23.84 to edge out Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom by just two hundredths of a second; Sjostrom finished second in 23.86. Curtis finished ahead of both Dutch swimmers, Milou van Wijk and Marrit Steenbergen. This is Curtis’s fifth medal: her third bronze, following those in the 100m freestyle and the 4x100m medley relay, then silver in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay and gold with a world record in the 50m backstroke.
