2026 European Swimming Championships, Head Coach Butini: “Italy has made the cut; the young swimmers will play a leading role”

Rome, 16 Aug. (LaPresse) – “Italy has come through with flying colours; it was a more challenging championship than usual with the return of the Russians. We saw a higher standard of performance, which is to be expected in the run-up to the Olympics. The more experienced athletes performed exceptionally well, but the trend among the younger athletes was also confirmed, particularly among the women. We expected the young swimmers to establish themselves in leading roles, and we saw this particularly among the girls.” So said Cesare Butini, technical director of the national swimming team, on Rai2 as he took stock of these European Championships.
