The Italian athlete jumped 7 metres on her first attempt, a distance that held off challenges from Britain’s Jazmin Sawyers, who was just one centimetre behind, and France’s Hilary Kpatcha (6.98). It was a victory secured early on and then defended right up to the final jump. This is Italy’s ninth gold medal at these European Championships.
