Rome, 17 Aug. (LaPresse) – The Attorney General’s Office for Sport at CONI has urged the FIGC’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office to open an investigation into the position of President Giovanni Malagò. The Federation’s current president, elected on 22 June with 69 per cent of the vote against the 29 per cent received by the other candidate, Giancarlo Abete, is reportedly not in compliance with membership requirements as at the date of submitting his candidacy, a necessary requirement under Article 29 (paragraph 1) of the FIGC Statutes. The newspaper ‘La Stampa’ has published the document dated 15 July from the General Prosecutor’s Office for Sport, signed by General Prosecutor Ugo Taucer, which highlights – with regard to the validity of his membership – “the failure to submit objective evidence in this regard” and the fact that “no action falling within the administrative remit of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office appears to have been taken”. For this reason, Prosecutor Taucer has requested an investigation by Prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné, given that no judge has determined whether Malagò was a member, as the matter was not examined in those proceedings.
