Deep down, I knew I wanted to carry on, but at the same time I had to sort out other matters that would allow me to do so. Now I’m here and I’m very happy to be back.” Luka Modric reflected on last season’s bitter end during an interview with Milan’s official channels. “As far as I’m concerned, I was sorry I couldn’t help the team as I had done before the injury. It was a really difficult time for me. We didn’t achieve our goal, but I took away many other things, such as the atmosphere at the club and in the dressing room, how we behaved – we always remained united and formed a real team. This made me feel a great deal of respect from everyone,” the 41-year-old Croatian playmaker added. “I’ve always stayed in touch with the people at Milan and, even though I was at the World Cup, Milan was always on my mind. It showed how much they cared about me and about me being part of this new project; that was what I needed, what I wanted to hear,” he concluded.
