Rome, 21 Aug. (LaPresse) – Jannik Sinner has decided to withdraw from the US Open. In a post on his social media accounts, the Italian chose not to take any risks and to focus on recovering from the knee injury that has been troubling him for months. The decision was made today, following several days of deliberation and assessment with his team. Sinner had already pulled out of Cincinnati specifically to try and recover in time for New York, the final Grand Slam of the season. “Although I have worked hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year. We returned to the court in Monte Carlo over the last few days and realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee problem. Obviously, I’m very sad and disappointed, as New York holds a special place in my heart. I was really looking forward to returning and playing in that electric atmosphere in front of the fantastic fans there.” This was Jannik Sinner’s post, shared on his social media channels, in which he announced his absence from the US Open, the final Grand Slam of the season.
