Milan, 24 August (LaPresse) – Sensational turn of events at the Vuelta a España. A violent hailstorm struck the riders during the final stages of the third stage, the 174km Gruissan Aude–Font Romeu, forcing the organisers to halt the race. At the time of the halt, the Italians Lorenzo Fortunato (XDS Astana) and Mats Wenzel (Kern Pharma) were in the lead. At the time of the suspension, there were approximately 15 km remaining to the finish line. Slovenian Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates, who was among the first to ask the organisers to halt the race, retains the red leader’s jersey. Stage 4 is scheduled for Tuesday, the first to start and finish in Andorra la Vella, featuring a mountainous route.
