Milan, Aug. 26 (LaPresse) – “Malagò had told me about his intention last night. Personally, I would have taken a little more time over this decision, because I personally believe I am a friend of Infantino: he was also kind enough to come and visit me, it was the first time that a FIFA president had visited the Serie A League headquarters in Milan, and so I am grateful to him for that.” This was said by Serie A League president Ezio Simonelli on the sidelines of the press conference presenting the Haier Gran Galà del Calcio of the Italian Footballers’ Association, scheduled for September 2 at La Scala in Milan, regarding the FIGC’s withdrawal of its support for Gianni Infantino as a candidate for FIFA president. “Malagò informed me of his decision last night and I take note of it, that’s all I will say,” he added. “Would I have expected a collective discussion? Yes, as I was saying, this is not a decision by the FIGC, it is a decision by the president of the FIGC. I was informed, but I don’t know whether the other stakeholders had been informed,” he added.
