Milan, 26 August (LaPresse) – Two Italians have reached the round of 16 at the Winston-Salem Open (ATP 250). Luciano Darderi won the all-Italian second-round clash against Mattia Bellucci. The world number 22, and the tournament’s second seed, came from behind to beat the world number 96, winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the round of 16, the Villa Gesell native will face Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (world number 71). Lorenzo Sonego (91) defeated France’s Adrian Mannarino (67) 6-1, 7-6(5), coming back from 2-5 down in the second set: in the round of 16, he will play against Australia’s James Duckworth (79). It was a day to forget for Daniil Medvedev in Winston-Salem. But that takes nothing away from the glorious day enjoyed by Martin Damm, the 22-year-old world number 92, who defeated him 7-5, 6-3, thereby securing his first victory against a Top 10 player.
