Having been involved in the game between 2010 and 2017, I too bear some of the responsibility, because today we are reaping what we have sown. Let’s just say that the sector got a bit carried away and lost touch with reality a little.” So said the Minister for Sport, Andrea Abodi, in an interview with Francesco Giorgino on ‘La Piazza’ on Affaritaliani.it, currently taking place in Ceglie Messapica (Brindisi). “But despite the difficulties,” he added, “attendance at stadiums continues to grow; there is always a fantastic level of public passion to which we must respond. We need a method and a vision, starting with the facilities and the youth academies.” Responding to a question about whether he has confidence in the current leadership of Italian football, Abodi said: “Trust is something that must be earned over time. I must have it because it is only right towards the institution, but trust must be earned. Are the leaders under judicial investigation? They are, but that also applies to us, who have been entrusted by the public and govern thanks to that trust.”
