After Luna Rossa and New Zealand, Alinghi has taken to the water in the Gulf of Naples, where the Preliminary Regatta is scheduled to take place from September 24 to 27, the first official event ahead of the 2027 America’s Cup. Images of the Swiss team’s training sessions, produced by Sport e Salute, the body appointed by the Italian government to implement the event, show a city increasingly geared toward the major international sailing event. The video also features images of Nisida, where the six hangars intended to house the teams competing in the September preliminary regatta have already been completed in the marina’s military area. Work is also continuing in the Bagnoli area, which is set to accommodate the teams’ operational bases for the 2027 America’s Cup. The project also involves the heart of the city. The Race Village is planned along Lungomare Caracciolo, accompanying the competition with free events and activities open to the public, bringing the spectacle of the America’s Cup directly to Naples’ waterfront. The September preliminary regatta will be a strategic stage for the teams, who will compete on the racecourse while studying the characteristics of the Gulf of Naples and their rivals’ strategies. But it will also be the first major test for an event destined to have a much longer presence in the city. The teams will in fact remain in Naples until the conclusion of the competition, scheduled for the end of July 2027.
