Milan, Sept. 2 (LaPresse) — “Did I consult with Mancini about the call-ups? Honestly, no. They’re very on top of things; they’re also working with Claudio Ranieri. We could use a few more young players, at least in terms of numbers, but it seems to me that several of these guys are showing promise. It seems to me that a lot of work was done in August to make it clear that we want to invest in the younger players.” This was stated by FIGC President Giovanni Malagò on the sidelines of the AIC Gran Galà del Calcio at La Scala in Milan. “You know that some of them—referring to the players—are involved in this issue of dual citizenship, dual passports, or even triple citizenship. That, too, is part of the job; I believe that Ranieri’s authority, combined with Mancini’s vision, provides a guarantee for the future: we cannot afford to leave any of these young players behind. I won’t name names right now, but you’ve already done that, and you’re much better prepared,” he added.
