Monza, Sept. 5 (LaPresse) – A major surprise in qualifying for the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Pierre Gasly of Alpine took pole position at Monza with a time of 1’21″786, beating Mercedes’ George Russell by 60 thousandths. The two Ferraris will start from the second row, taking advantage of the penalty Oscar Piastri, third in Q3, will have to serve. Charles Leclerc, fourth, therefore moves up to third place, alongside him will be the other Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton, promoted from fifth to fourth place. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli was seventh and, as already announced in recent days, will start at the back of the grid after replacing the fifth engine on his Mercedes, compared with the four allowed by the regulations. The race is scheduled for tomorrow at 3 p.m.
