The Italian, seeded 21st in the draw and ranked 22nd in the world, defeated Australian Dane Sweeny (ATP No. 123), a wild card entrant, with a score of 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. In the next round, he will face either Germany’s Alexander Zverev (ATP No. 2) or Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo (ATP No. 28).
