(LaPresse/AP) – The case involving Sassuolo midfielder Cristian Volpato’s alleged positive cocaine test, detected by Australian police on 24 July, has concluded with a fine. Volpato, who decided to play for Australia shortly before the World Cup, had been stopped by New South Wales police officers on the Anzac Bridge in Sydney, his hometown. He has been fined 722 Australian dollars. The midfielder has consistently maintained his innocence, claiming he never knowingly took the substance and adding that he underwent a further test in Italy, which came back negative. However, according to the Australian police, the second sample taken also tested positive.
