These are three vital points for Di Francesco’s Salento-based side, who, after two consecutive defeats, have returned to winning ways and now sit on 6 points in the table. It was, however, a third defeat in four matches for Juric’s Monza side, who once again exposed the defensive frailties already evident in previous fixtures. Lecce produced a superb first half, breaking the deadlock early on after just 3 minutes with a header from Coulibaly from a corner, and doubling their lead in the 11th minute through Tiago Gabriel with another winning header from a corner. Mangas pulled one back for Monza with a close-range deflection from Birindelli’s assist. Just a minute later, however, the in-form Coulibaly made it 3–1 with a flying deflection from Veiga’s cross from the right. In the second half, Monza attempted a comeback, but partly due to the heat, the pace dropped significantly and Lecce were able to control the game fairly comfortably. All the excitement came in the closing stages, when Zeballos pulled one back for the Brianza side in the 88th minute. Lecce were left on edge, coming under siege from Juric’s team, who came close to a comeback in stoppage time.
