Milan, 30 Sept. (LaPresse) – “Following the statements made by the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, and the controversy that has ensued in the press this afternoon, I am resigning as head of the national team delegation.” Diana Bianchedi announced this in a statement. “This decision has been reached out of the great respect I have for CONI, its Executive Committee, the FIGC and sporting institutions, as demonstrated by my career as an athlete and an administrator,” she added. “I have always acted with integrity and professionalism, respecting the rules and people, for the good of sport: values that are today being unfairly called into question.” Bianchedi explains: “Furthermore, I have chosen to step down out of respect for what the Azzurri shirt represents, primarily to protect the team from unnecessary controversy. A team that I found to be united, motivated and made up of outstanding professionals, from the head coach to the players and the entire staff. I thank them for the welcome they gave me and for the emotions they have allowed me to experience, even in just a few days. Let us remember that sport is, and must be, first and foremost this. Let’s support these lads – they deserve it.”
