Milan, 2 Oct. (LaPresse) – The storm sparked by Cristiano Ronaldo’s walkout from the training camp in Denmark continues to shake the very foundations of Portuguese football. Faced with the ever-widening rift between the captain and Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) is taking an active role in managing the crisis. The aim – according to the website of the daily newspaper A Bola – is to do everything possible to facilitate an understanding between the manager and the player, preventing a glorious two-decade-long partnership from coming to an abrupt end. When asked about possible emergency meetings between the parties, the FPF did not confirm anything; however, according to information also obtained from A Bola, the priority is to mend the rift and bridge the gap between the two sides, seeking a path towards consensus. To this end, the federation’s president, Pedro Proença, and other officials will do everything in their power to ensure that Cristiano Ronaldo’s time with the national team does not end in this way, given all that the Portuguese star represents for the country and for Portuguese football.
