Turin, 2 Oct. (LaPresse) – Jasmine Paolini has been knocked out in her opening round at the ‘China Open’, the penultimate WTA 1000 event of the season, with a prize fund of $9,415,725, currently being played on the hard courts of the Olympic Green Tennis Centre in Beijing (combined with an ATP 500 event). The 30-year-old from Bagni di Lucca, ranked 20th and seeded 14th – placed in the bottom half of the draw, headed by Sabalenka (No. 2), and more specifically in Andreeva’s (No. 4) quarter – was defeated in the second round (her opening match) 3-6, 7-6(5) 6-2, after just under two and a quarter hours of play, by the Ukrainian Daria Snigur, a 24-year-old from Kyiv, ranked 46th in the WTA, who in 2026 was a finalist at the ‘250’ in Prague and winner of the ‘125’ in Oeira. Paolini led by a set and twice held a break advantage in the second set, but it was not enough.
