Rome, 7 Oct. (LaPresse) – “In my view, this notion of politics taking over is a recurring caricature that has no basis in reality.” So said the Minister for Sport, Andrea Abodi, on the sidelines of the press conference in Rome to launch the Mondadori Academy Forum Orienta, commenting on yesterday’s vote by the CONI Executive Committee and Council to appoint Giovanni Malagò as commissioner of the FIGC. “I would have felt defeated if nothing had happened, because what I hoped for was that the rules would be respected by everyone, always and in all circumstances,” the minister continued. “Football has shown in recent years – and there have been quite a few such instances – that the law is not always the same for everyone. So the fact that a step forward was taken yesterday, even within the Concordia group, is positive, provided it does not undermine the fundamental principle of respect.”
