Rome, 7 Oct. (LaPresse) – No retirement from the national team, at least for now. Cristiano Ronaldo, in a lengthy statement released last night to the Portuguese media, has assured that he will remain available to Portugal, despite the incident in which he left the training camp ahead of the Nations League match against Denmark, following a row with manager Jorge Jesus, whom he accused of failing to keep his promises regarding his playing time. “I can promise all my fans, and of course the Portuguese people in particular, that there will be one or more farewell matches. There will be time for that,” said Ronaldo. He then added: “Therefore, if I am in good physical condition, I will play for my club and – hopefully – score some goals; once I have served any suspension that may be imposed on me, I will be available, as I have always been up to now, to compete and win with our national team.” Regarding Jesus, CR7 explained that he had agreed a plan for managing his playing time and had expected the manager to clarify the situation publicly and take responsibility for it. He claimed, however, that the manager had not honoured the agreements; on the contrary, he had adopted an aggressive stance at the press conference, thereby causing a breakdown in the relationship of trust.
